Virgin Atlantic Somerset House Christmas tree

  • Somerset house Christmas tree install finished.
  • Looking up at the Christmas tree decorations that are hanging in the branches.
  • Airbrushing the face of the lady that tops the Christmas tree.
  • Lifting the Suitcases in place around the base of the tree.

The brief

As well as 800 red baubles and aeroplane related tree decorations for Virgin Atlantic, we also built 3 stacked red suitcases to surround the bottom of the Somerset house tree and its base. We also built finger posts with a candy cane paint finish and snow mounds with vinyl printed signs displaying holiday destinations.

As sponsor's of this year's Skate at Somerset House, we wanted to create a Christmas tree that would truly reflect the Virgin Atlantic Holiday brand. With tight timelines we knew it would be a challenge but Spur went above and beyond to bring our vision to life. The final result not only exceeded our expectations but working with the team was an absolute dream. Their dedication and creativity made the entire process seamless and enjoyable and we couldn't be more thrilled with the results.

The Process

We painted all 800 baubles the Virgin Atlantic red, some glossy, some matt and some with the Virgin Atlantic logo applied.

We also sculpted from polystyrene the lady with the flag on the side of the Virgin Atlantic Aeroplanes, she was sculpted from polystyrene, fibreglass coated and the detail added with air drying clay, before being spray and hand painted and finished to a high gloss, ready to top the tree.

For the base of the tree we built three stacked red suitcases from timber and vinyl wrapped them, with detail like handles and corners applied.

We made two finger post signs with a candy cane paint finish, and attached vinyl printed signs displaying the Virgin Atlantic holiday destinations, these sign posts were placed inside weighted snow mounds that we sculpted and coated in fibreglass.

As well as baubles we also sourced Virgin Atlantic model aeroplanes and had rainbows and baggage tags vinyl printed to hang in the tree.
