The brief
At just over one and a half times the size of a real Nissan Qashqai this vibrant bright red giant prop was an exciting challenge for us at Spur. Built and designed in under 5 weeks, our team of prop makers worked tirelessly to bring the car to life ready to be lifted and placed onto the Truman brewery chimney in London. Complete with front and back lights, and attached to the chimney via a giant metal frame bonded into the car, with the small 3D printed details such as door handles, and wipers stuck on before painting the car a bright glossy red. It was then lifted 48 metres into the skies of London by two cranes, and attached to the side of the chimney leaving passers by questioning how a car ended up there.

The Process
We had the body of the car and a single wheel milled out of polystyrene: the team then spent time preparing each of the six section of the car ready for the fibreglass. Before joining we inserted a metal frame up inside the body to bolt the main frame to. Once the finishing was complete we primed and painted the car with glossy car paint matching the exact colour of the red Nissan Qashqai in the adverts. Adding vinyl for the black roof and windows and cutting out sections to fit the lights. The frame consisted of angled padded legs that sat against the chimney, this frame was then bolted to the car and used to lift the entire prop into its parking space on the chimney. The install was a collaboration of different teams coming together, delivered safely from our workshop to the install site in Shoreditch, London, where two cranes positioned the car vertically 48m in the air on the chimney. The car was up for four days before successfully being brought down with the same efficient teams present.

The Result
It was an exciting and proud moment for Spur watching the giant prop being lifted and secured onto the chimney with cheers from the clients on site.
