The brief
Polar Black Events asked us to help with another Christmas install. We had to make 4 different sized giant bubble shape props to go under the tree at Somerset House for Christmas 2022 Christmas event, the smallest being 600mm diameter and the largest 1600mm diameter.

The Process
We moulded and cast the giant bubbles with fibreglass and each had a slightly flat base to allow them to free stand with bolts in the underside to fix down to the floor surrounding the tree, however, a few weeks before install, the people at Somerset House decided they'd prefer us not to fix directly to the floor and asked if we could build each one on its own circular base, which could be screwed down instead, which we agreed would work after consulting our composite engineer. A fairly simple job this one, but each sphere had to be sanded and smoothed to perfection before painting them with a gold paint and high gloss lacquer, so it was busy working on all 23 of them. They were then delivered on the back of a lorry and fork lifted off outside Somerset House and we installed them under the tree.

The Result
Our client, Polar Black Events, and Somerset House were happy with the end result and we were glad to be asked to make props for the Somerset House Christmas event for another year.
