Drip Plinth

  • Painted oversized drips running the wrong way up an MDF plinth.
  • An exhibition stand with MDF and fibreglass plinths.

The brief

The drips of the plinths colours were to replicate the clients corporate colours and have a nice glossy finish to look like freshly poured paint.

Got there in the end and the plinth props looked amazing client was really happy. Thank you so much for your hard work.

  1. Clay drips being sculpted around an MDF plinth before a mould is taken.

  5. Painted oversized drips running the wrong way up an MDF plinth.
  6. Painted MDF and fibreglass plinths for a trade show.

The Process

We began by making a box the same size that the eventual plinths would be and onto this we sculpted the drips in clay. From these drips, we took a mould and cast them in fibreglass. These were then bonded on to the actual MDF plinths and any joins were filled and sanded back. We then painted the fibreglass drips by pouring on various mixed colours of a cellulose paint. These were then masked off and the MDF plinth was painted.

The Result

These looked really beautiful with the multi-coloured drips against the clean black plinths and were fun to make.
